A noble effort to “Save Puerto” has been effective enough so far for organizers to commit to staging the event in late September.

IBA have confirmed that the campaign has secured enough base funding to stage a basic Men‚s GSS event.

The new dates are September 27th to October 6th.

IBA Tour manager Terry McKenna is ecstatic about the result and is looking forward to another epic event in Puerto Escondido.

“Last year was amazing” said McKenna

“At this point we have a bare-bones event confirmed but we need more support from the fraternity to include a webcast and some of the trimmings that we have come to expect from the existing GSS events”

Head of the IBA Gregg Taylor elaborates on the campaign.

“The primary purpose of the Salvemos Puerto campaign was to use the IBA event to provide a spark to the local economy in Puerto Escondido and this has been achieved, though further funding is required via the IBA Salvemos Puerto campaign to secure a global live webcast of the event to raise the awareness of ongoing challenges the Puerto Escondido community are facing and to bring the action to the screens of the global Bodyboarding community. Additional funding will also be used for the donation to the local lifeguards and Puerto Escondido community.” said Taylor.

The International Bodyboarding Association (IBA) has launched a global campaign to “Salvemos Puerto” (Save Puerto).

The IBA is looking to raise US$100,000 for the base funding to stage the IBA Zicatella Pro at Puerto Escondido from August 8 – August 18, 2012. The event will be used as a platform to achieve the primary objectives of:

1. Driving tourism to the town of Puerto Escondido and to promote the area as a safe tourist destination in order to drive the local economy.

2. Raise funds and mobilise resources to rebuild the 8 lifeguard towers at Playa Zicatela.

The core campaign is to sell 5000 “Salvemos Puerto” t shirts @ $30 each to raise the required funding to achieve the above objectives. All proceeds go to the Salvemos Puerto Campaign.

The Industry has also donated over $250,000 of merchandise at no cost to help raise the required funds. The following limited merchandise packs will be made available for sale with all funds raised going to the Salvemos Puerto Campaign:

· $60 pack (only 500 units available)
· $80 pack (only 250 units available)
· $100 pack (only 500 units available)

Turbo Surf Designs, Reeflex Wetsuits, Invertedand Freedom Fins are donating products for each of the packs so that the retail value of each pack far exceeds the ticket price.

The campaign is to raise the first $100,000 prior to 8th July via merchandise sales through to the conclusion of the event via a viral campaign to raise awareness and funding globally.

Since we missed last week’s radness we’ve got to make up for it, right?? Damn straight we do!!
BUT searching the interweb for the radness takes time & something we don’t have much off at the moment.
Getting our 2012 winter range out to everyone is more important so we thought we’d treat you to some videos we found rad.

This first vid is probably our favourite.. The God father of skateboarding Rodney Mullen doing a TED talk for USC (University of southern Cali). This is rad in many aspects because he’s 46 & still rules skateboarding. Just like Mike Stewart on a bodyboard (49yo) or Kelly Slater (40yo), these guys are re-defining the boundaries of their sports. Very inspiring stuff indeed……
